Here it implements network servers with popular standards such as FTP or Network File System (NFS). Not to be confused with SANs (storage area networks), which, on the other hand, adopt proprietary protocols while comprising a network.

Finally, several NAS systems support the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP ); thus, clients have the ability to download files in the Web browser from a NAS that supports HTTP.
