PNRR school: how it works and what technologies are needed

The PNRR School (or PNRR Education) is the National Plan for Resilience and Resilience dedicated to the school world.

It is being implemented and included in the “School 4.0 Plan.”

Schools for tomorrow’s Italy: digitization is priority

Its exact name is “The School for Tomorrow’s Italy” to which the Ministry of Education has dedicated a website where the full proposal and investment plans can be viewed.

It consists of a series of reforms and funding designed to promote the full resumption of all school activities, with medium- and long-term goals focused on the establishment of a new educational system that not only guarantees the right to study, but is based On technological innovation and interactivity of students and the school system.

School innovation, flexible and inclusive classrooms

It is 17.5 billion euros of investment in the school NRP, focused on 6 reforms and 11 lines of investment; the general development keys of the plan basically focus on:

  • Digital skills;
  • School innovation;
  • Workshops for the digital professions of the future.

This means flexible learning spaces that encourage inclusion and in line with the growth needs of children and youth.

At the core is the intention to transform 100,000traditional classrooms intoinnovative learning environments.

Each school has been allocated resources to implement the change, with a 40 percent reserve for Southern Italy.

“Between PNRR resources and other European funds, this is 4.9 billion made available to wire classrooms, train teachers, bring ultra broadband to schools, support the digitization of secretarial and school-related payments, and innovate teaching spaces.

Work that must go on to ensure a school that is in step with the times for students and families.”Patrizio Bianchi, Minister of Education

School NRP, what the main technologies are for.

The resources made available to schools are for:

100,000 innovative classrooms with Next generation classrooms

With this measure, there is a real possibility of transforming about 100 thousand first- and second-cycle schools (half of the current classrooms) into new connectivity-based environments.

Digital spaces designed for new teaching.
, with the aim of enhancing teaching techniques, learning and development of cognitive, emotional and social skills of each student and student.

Technology equipment for these projects, should be imprinted with versatile digital equipment, wireless or wired network, to be decided by the school leader in collaboration with the innovation team and the digital animator.

The digital professions spaces of the future: next generation labs

It is aimed at secondary schools.

Here the aim is to develop and increase pupils’ digital skills in various technological areas, e.g. robotics, cyber security, digital communication, artificial intelligence, with ad hoc tools.

These workshops are also a way to expand the schools’ educational offerings by providing pupils with the opportunity to develop soft skills useful in familiarizing themselves with new professions.

Thus, integration with PCTOs – Pathways for Transversal Skills and Orientation – a unique opportunity for schools, businesses, technical colleges of higher education and teachers is planned.

To the transformation of environments to more technologically “fluid” and interconnected, there are allocations for other School Plan 4.0 measures such as:

  • Integrated digital education with 379 million current projects;
  • Upgrading local, wired and wireless networks in schools with 445 million in React EU funds;
  • Installation of interactive screens in classrooms with 455 million React EU funds;
  • Creating STEM environments with 99 million investment;
  • The Broadband Plan with 600 million in part from the NRP;
  • The PagoPA-SPID-CIE Plan, a 60 million investment from the PNRR;
  • Cloud migration and school websites, a 155 million PNRR investment in collaboration with the Department for Digital Transformation of the Prime Minister’s Office);
  • Innovative preschool environments with about 250 million invested.

Not to mention the 800 million for digital training of school staff.

What technologies are most in demand?

Technologies for school digitization range from screens to laptops, from cloud services that ensure security, automatic data storage with periodic backups to immediate data sharing.

The technologies needed to adhere to what Minister Bianchi called “concrete school transformed intervention” that can give the education system a “strategic educational role for the growth of the country.”

Technological and digital equipment should ensure maximum reliability and, above all, the constant presence of dedicated support, which should be based on collaboration between experts identified by the school (innovation team, for example) and experienced technicians and consultants from service provider companies.
