Who is HARDI
HARDI International A/S, a leading global manufacturer of agricultural crop protection equipment, has announced the implementation of RealWear Navigator® 520 smart glasses and the Innomize after-sales concept .
The goal is to offer its customers real-time remote technical support for advanced machinery.
HARDI International A/S is an international group that aims to meet the needs of users with quality products that ensure efficient, timely and accurate use of plant protection products.
Context and challenges
HARDI has a worldwide distribution and sales network, represented by importers, agents and sales branches in more than 100 countries, including Sweden, Norway, Denmark, France, Spain, North America, Germany, Australia and China.
It also employs about 600 employees globally.
With subsidiaries and production units spanning multiple continents, the company produces high-tech agricultural machinery that often requires maintenance in harsh environments.
Extraordinary maintenance outside of scheduled operations is sometimes necessary, and until now, HARDI has relied on its global sales network to address technical problems in the field.
In several cases unforeseen challenges have required the intervention of a HARDI technical expert.
This process was costly and time-consuming, especially if the customer was located far from the service center.
The Innovation of RealWear Smart Glasses
For
reduce costs and downtime, HARDI looked at several smart glasses options, ultimately choosing the RealWear Navigator® 520 for its ergonomic and robust design and advanced features such as noise reduction, which is essential for operating in noisy environments with heavy machinery.
Now, when action is needed, on-site technicians can wear the RealWear Navigator 520® and connect remotely with a HARDI expert, sharing what they see through streaming video in real time .
This allows experts to visually guide the technician in the field to fix the problem quickly, avoiding additional costs and intervention time and reducing downtime.
Economic and environmental benefits
The adoption of RealWear smart glasses had a significant impact in terms of cost savings.
In fact, on average it cost about 5,000 euros per trip to send a technician to the site, depending on the destination.
With the use of smart glasses, problems can typically be solved in about an hour and a half per case.
Mads Ulrik Petersen, Aftermarket Manager at HARDI, said, “We implemented several RealWear devices in the initial phase of our global rollout. We have been using smart glasses internally in our technical service operations since 2021 and are now moving to a more commercial phase. HARDI is offering this solution to farmers and dealers by allowing them to purchase the technology and receive faster technical support.”
Communication without barriers
RealWear Navigator 520® smart glasses used by HARDI are equipped with Wideum’s Remote Eye remote video assistance software , which allows technicians and experts to communicate hands-free.
The software also includes an AI translator for efficient multilingual communication, allowing users to speak in their native language and translate the conversation in real time.
This feature is critical to HARDI’s global operations, facilitating effective communication and removing language barriers.
Helle Rosenberg, Business Development Specialist at Innomize, commented, “HARDI’s adoption of RealWear smart glasses is a landmark for the agricultural industry and demonstrates the potential impact of the technology for companies operating in diverse and international settings. Overcoming language barriers is a crucial issue that, if addressed effectively, can significantly improve global operations.”
Smart Glasses and agriculture: future prospects
Looking ahead, Petersen added, “Investing in our large and complex machinery is a significant commitment for farmers, given the significant financial outlay.
These machines are full of electronic components, and any failure can render the entire machine unusable.
As part of our strategy, we are planning to integrate RealWear smart glasses in every sale of some models in our range.”

RealWear smart glasses support in the agricultural sector
To recapitulate, the
smart glasses can offer concrete support in the agricultural sector in the following ways:
- Reducing downtime: Smart glasses such as RealWear can provide immediate troubleshooting assistance.
Farmers can receive real-time instructions to repair machinery, reducing downtime caused by breakdowns. - Offering remote technical support: Farmers can connect with remote technical experts who can see what the operator sees through smart glasses and provide accurate directions for repairs or maintenance.
- Mediating training and education: Smart glasses can be used for educational purposes, offering visual tutorials and step-by-step guides directly in the field of work.
This can improve the skills of farmers and technicians, making them more autonomous in operating and maintaining equipment. - Through operational efficiency: Smart glasses can help farmers monitor and manage machinery more efficiently by providing real-time data and performance analysis.
This can lead to better resource management and increased productivity. - With documentation and monitoring: With smart glasses, farmers can record video and take voice notes while operating machinery, facilitating documentation and monitoring of activities and equipment conditions.
- Providing greater safety: Smart glasses can improve work safety by providing alerts and notifications about nearby obstacles or hazards, allowing farmers to work more safely.
As demonstrated in the HARDI International case study, integrating RealWear smart glasses into the sale of certain machinery models provides farmers with an advanced tool to better manage the complexities of modern farm equipment, improving efficiency, reducing costs and increasing productivity.
